I can only echo what I have read, that a GEM is ultimately better than alt-az for imaging. Using an Evo/3G ECU requires you to use the Evo 8 knock sensor. The 1G knock sensors are a completely different sensor as far as how they work and are practically deaf compared to the Evo knock sensor. 2G knock sensors are very similar to an Evo knock sensor and some people have had success using them.
